Hailing from the north-west of England, Takeaway Thieves’ new album Diamond Point is the perfect example of what it means to deliver the very best in hard rock. The casual listener will simply recognise this album as a collection of great rock songs but Diamond Point is so much more than this. The dual guitar attack courtesy of Neil Hunter and Ben Gibson presents their instruments working effortlessly together. They’re driving in different lanes but absolutely focused on the same horizon. And these are skilled musicians. Within Diamond Point they prove that they understand musicality, emotion, power, collaboration and what it means to embody all these elements to create a wonderful piece of music. This is a duo that knows how to create infectious riffs tagged with gorgeous lead flurries. Vocally there’s an honesty and authenticity that wears the battle scars of a life lived. This record is also a lesson in exceptional song structure. Every song has his its twists and turns and its own surprises, capturing the listener and retaining our excitement throughout this wholly cohesive album experience. Focussing on some of Diamond Point’s gems, the cool swagger of opening track Kickin’ My Heart Around sets us off on the most uplifting journey and shows us that it’s entirely possible to dance to a rock song. Find My Way Home could have been a track on Queen’s self-tilted debut had vocalist Peter McLoughlin travelled back in time to 1970 and stumbled upon Brian May and Roger Taylor 5 minutes before Mr Mercury. True Story is where Takeaway Thieves really showcase their gift for storytelling, and latest single Gypsy ,with its simple yet infectious guitars, is perhaps the track most likely to inspire the next generation to pick up the instrument and set off on their own voyage of discovery. Overall it’s clear that this is an album where the songs have been nurtured. There’s clearly been a commitment to delivering only very best that these 5 gifted band members have to offer.
