Experience The Lazys: A Rocking Night in Manchester

THE LAZYS

STAR & GARTER, MANCHESTER.

AT THE time of writing, Aussie rockers The Lazys were an unknown entity but following my belief of a simple name might be worth seeing, Manchester’s Star & Garter gave the calling.

Whilst not the cities largest venue, this upstairs rock fest was reasonably packed and was kicked off by Sour Tusk who did well. As did Junkyard Drive, a tight European  five some who’ve knocked out a couple of albums, with  Mr. Rock ‘n’ Roll taken from the Electric Love disc, enjoyed by both I and others.

Headliners The Lazys hit the ground running with Picture, followed by Howling Woman, delivered well by mouth merchant Leon Harrison on vocals powering a no nonsense approach. Gelling with his team mates Matty Morris on lead guitar, Liam Shearer on rhythm and T.J. Smith belting out the bass, from the off they let the Manchurians know who was in charge. Vulgarities aside, front man Leon did well, along with the man at the back  Andy Nielsen on the tubs who held a strong beat throughout.

To summarise, it has to be said The Lazys worked hard, and you could tell they’ve plenty of ground work under their belts. Having been formed well over a decade now, I would have liked to have seen a splash of colour, just to add flair, as most bands wear black. That said, many boxeswere ticked and without doubt the band earned and deserved the raucous applause the venue gave them. If they don’t receive a decent festival slot next year then something’s wrong with the world!

Finally, a word of thanks must go to our amazing host Ian,who guided us through not only his fridge of beer but navigated our entourage to and from the venue via Britain’swonderful public transport system. The man’s a real star…
